1st Century Bronze Ring Depicting a Winged God

This is an early Roman bronze ring with a raised oval bezel, on which a figure depicting a winged god holding a staff and looking to the right is neatly engraved. The figure is quite likely an early stylised depiction of the god Mercury. It still retains traces of enamelling and it has a light green even patina. Although it has been slightly squashed in antiquity, the ring is in very good condition, with a particularly clear incised engraving.

The ring measures 30 mm in length, 13 mm. in width and 16 mm in depth.
