Early 13th Century Romanesque Gilded Bronze Buckle Plate
This is a delicately made early 13th-century Romanesque openwork gilt bronze buckle plate with an attached loop. A raised lion passant is depicted in relief on the buckle plate, which still retains approximately 75% of its original gilding. The buckle plate has three fixing studs attaching the surviving backplate and the loop is D-shaped. The buckle’s securing tongue is also intact.
The buckle plate is a quality item in very good complete condition. It measures 45 mm in length and 2 mm at its widest point.
