1st Century Roman Terracotta Volute Oil Lamp Depicting a Cupid Carrying Baskets
This 1st century Roman oil lamp depicts a cupid wearing a loin cloth, running right whilst looking left. The cupid is carrying baskets attached to a long pole. This scene is portrayed inside the concentric ring pattern within the bowl of the lamp. A very smilar motif of a cupid carrying baskets has been found in Pompeii ( see Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum by Paul Roberts British Museum P. 70).
The lamp is in very good condition and measures 65 mm in length by 90 mm wide 25 mm in depth.
