Coy entered France in 1917, where his Regiment was to see regular action as a dismounted regiment in the trenches. Their first major engagement was at the Battle of Arras in April 1917, followed by Cambrai in November 1917. The Regiment next played a significant role in the German spring offensive from 21st March. During this period the Queen’s Bays suffered 140 casualties in two weeks of hard fighting. In particular, on 23rd March they fought a mounted rearguard action whilst crossing the river near Pargny. Following this, the Regiment saw further action at the Battle of Arras in April/May 1917.

Finally, in August 1918 the Queen’s Bays took part in the Battles of the Scarpe and Albert during the Hundred Days Offensive. In the later period of the war, Pte. Coy received a new service number D/14586 as part of the Corps of Dragoons.

This group is an outstanding quality pair to an elite cavalry regiment and is sold with a copy of the MIC and named box of issue.
