WWI War and Victory Pair to 41505 Pte. L. Riley of the Yorkshire Regiment D.O.W. 07/11/1917

Lancelot Riley resided in Jarrow-on-Tyne where he initially joined the 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards). He was transferred to the 1/4th Battalion in 1916 and this battalion became part of the 150th Brigade of the 50th (Northumbrian) Division.

Pte. Riley first saw action with the 1/4th Battalion on the Somme at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette on 15th September, 1916. Following this, the 1/4th Bttln. participated in the Arras offensive in April 1917, before moving to the Ypres Salient in October 1917. It was during the Battle of Paschendaele, that Pte. Lancelot Riley aged 23, suffered wounds that he was to die of on 7th November, 1917.

Pte. L. Riley is buried in the Mendingham Military Cemetery in Belgium. The medal pair is sold with copies of MIC, British War and Victory entitlement sheet, War Forces casualty return sheet, C.W.G.C certificate plus other war grave details.
