Description

WWI British War and Victory Pair to F. W. Jones of the Cheshire Regiment

Condition – N.E.F.

Frederick William Jones was commissioned as a Lieutenant into the 9th (Service) Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. He arrived in France with the 9th Battalion on 29th April 1918, where the Battalion was placed in the 56th Brigade of the 19th Western Division. He first saw action in the 3rd Battle of Aisne from 27th May to 6th June 1918.

Following this Lieutenant F. W. Jones was engaged in the Battle of the Selle (17th – 26th  October 1918), Battle of Sambre (4th November 1918) and finally the Passage of the Grand Honelle (5th – 7th November 1918).

After the end of the war, he was transferred to the 4th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment from which he applied for his War and Victory medals in July 1921. By this time he was living in Darwen Lancashire and he resigned his commission on 28th July, 1921.

The medal pair is sold with a copy of his MIC, which shows that the War and Victory medals were his sole entitlement and that he earned them with the 9th Cheshire Regiment. As there is another officer listed as F. W. Jones,  his MIC is also included along with a letter confirming that his medals are already in private ownership. The second F. W. Jones was Frederick Wigan Jones and he earned the 1914/15 Star fighting with the Royal Warwicks.
