Description

Crimea War Medal 1854-56 1 Clasp Sebastopol Officially Impressed to H. Crofts Gr. & Dr. 1st Battalion Royal Artillery W.I.A.  SOLD

Condition – N.E.F.

Henry Crofts served with the 1st Battalion Royal Artillery during the siege of Sebastopol. He took part in the heavy artillery bombardment of Sebastopol prior to the British First Attack on the Redan, 18th June 1855. Henry Crofts was severely wounded in the trenches on the 6th June 1855 and was invalided back to England as a result. He is described as being severely wounded in the London Gazette on the 22nd June 1855. Although his name appears on the casualty return as “Croft” this is indeed the same recipient, as there is no other Henry Croft/Crofts serving in the 1st Battalion Royal Artillery at that time.

The medal is in N.E.F. condition with only minor surface scratches.

The medal is sold with a copy of the London Gazette casualty page showing him as severely wounded.
