Description

14th Century Bronze/Gilt Annular Brooch

This small but sturdy 14th century ladies brooch still retains its pin. The brooch would have been used to secure an article of clothing. It still retains an incised pattern of quatrefoil flowers, which run around the front of the brooch and the side. The quatrefoil flowers alternate with a rectangular shape, which may have also held a motif. The brooch was originally fully gilded, but only 25% of the gilding survives on the obverse and 50% on the inner rim at the front.

The brooch measures 15 mm in diameter and 3 mm. It has been delicately decorated and remains in good overall condition.
