WWI War and Victory Pair to 4569 Pte. T. Slack of the York and Lancaster Regiment
Thomas Slack joined the 2nd Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment and arrived in France in the Spring of 1916. The Battalion was heavily engaged in the battles of the Somme during 1916 whilst part of the 16th Brigade of the British 6th Division. The most notable actions during the Somme offensive were the battles of Fler-Courcelette on the 18th September 1916, Merval on the 25th September 1916 and Transley Ridge on the 12th October 1916. Following these actions in 1916, the Yorks and Lancs. participated in the Battle of Cambrai in 1917 and the Lys and Hindenberg Line in 1918.
The medal pair is sold with Pte. Slack's original pair of dog tags and a copy of a studio photograph measuring 8.5 cm by 6.5 cm, which shows his medic badge and pre-WWI medal ribbon.
