WWI British War and Victory Pair with Memorial Plaque to 39378 Pte. W. Fox of the The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regtiment D.O.W 09/11/1917

Walter Fox was born and resided in Norwich and enlisted into the Queen’s Regiment in late 1915. He joined the 7th Battalion, which was part of the 55th Brigade of the 18th (Eastern) Division. Pte. Fox first saw action on the Somme, at the Battle of Albert on 1st July 1916. Following this, the 7th Bn. fought at the Battle of Thiepval on 30th September before taking part in the final Somme action at the Ancre Heights, on the 18th November, 1916.

Later on in the War, Pte. Fox took part in the action during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. He was involved in the Battle of Pilcken Ridge between 31st July and 2nd August and the Battle of Langemarck between the 16th and 18th of August, 1917. His final action was during the Second Battle of Passchendaele between 26th October and 10th November 1917. It was during this fierce fighting, that Pte. Walter Fox became a casualty and was to die of his wounds on 9th November 1917 at the age of 24.

He is Remembered with Honour at Etaples Military Cemetery. The War and Victory Pair with Memorial Plaque are sold with his original Death Scroll (cut down to size and fixed to card), copies of C.W.C.G. certificates, and Forces War Record details. Both War and Victory medals are in mint condition and the Memorial Plaque is in excellent condition.
