Rare 2nd Century Bronze Roman Votive Altar. SOLD
The votive altar has a throne-like appearance and comprises of a hollow square shaped piece, which steps outwards leading to four pedestal feet. Surmounting the flat altar top on either side are two standing rams, which associate the votive altar with the god Mercury. The front lower section of the altar is missing, but it is still an impressive piece.
The votive altar was found in Gloucestershire. It measures 4.3cm in length and 3.5cm in width, inclusive of the feet.
