Large 2nd Century Redware Roman Oil Lamp Depicting A Circus Chariot Race SOLD
This lovely 2nd century Roman lamp depicts a scene of a racing chariot and horses within the bowl surrounded by three concentric rings. The lamp has a solid raised handle and a protruding spout. On the underside of the lamp inside four concentric rings is a maker's mark, which consists of a trident head between two parallel lines.
The lamp is quite large being 135 mm long, 105 mm wide and 50 mm in depth (from the tip of the handle to the base) and is in very fine complete condition with no damage.
