Medieval Lead Papal Bulla of Pope Honorius III 1216-1272 SOLD
This large Papal Bulla is attributed to Honorius III, who was Pope from 1216-1272. The Bulla is complete and in very good condition. The obverse is particularly detailed and the stylised features of St. Peter and St. Paul are very clear as is the lettering SPASPE above the saints' heads. The beading surrounding the saint's features is also complete and well defined. On the reverse the name and title HONO RIVS.PP.III is very clear.
The Bulla has a horizontal crease running from East to West through the middle, but this does not detract from the quality of this early medieval artefact.
The Papal Bulla measures 40 mm in diameter and 4 mm in depth.
