14th Century Small Heraldic Horse Pendant Displaying a Castle or Abbey
This small heraldic horse pendant is square in shape and has a floral design in each corner. Within the square is a lozenge shape depicting a three towered castle or abbey incorporating a doorway. The pendant still retains about 60% of the red enamelling within the background of the lozenge and there are remains of gilding particularly around the floral pattern.
The pendant still retains its hanging loop and is in outstanding condition with a lovely overall patina. A similar but rougher example can be found on P377 of the second edition of Benet's Artefacts of England and the United Kingdom (M08-0130).
The pendant measures 25 mm in length including the loop and 15 mm in width.
