Group of Third Reich Iron Cross Citations to NCO Otto Binder Infantry
This group of citations and documents to Nr. 18513, Otto Binder an NCO in the German Infantry consists of:
1) Citation for the Iron Cross 2nd Class, dated 08/12/1943 and signed by the Commanding Officer of the 290th Infantry Division - Lt. General Conrad-Oskar Heinrichs (Knight's Cross: 13/09/1941).
2) Citation for Iron Cross 1st Class, dated 23/12/1943 and signed by Heinrichs.
3) Letter by Binder's Company Commander announcing the award of Iron Cross 1st Class and his promotion to Candidate Officer. This was sent to Binder's home on 21/01/1944.
4) Letter from a comrade congratulating Binder on his award of the Iron Cross 1st Class and informing him about the situation of the unit.
Otto Binder served with Grenadier Regiment 502 of the 290 Inf. Div., during December 1943, which was active in Russia (Newel). It is very likely due to receipt of the Iron Cross 1st Class only two weeks after the award of an Iron Cross 2nd Class plus promotion, that Otto Binder had been involved in an act of heroism.
