Queen's South Africa Medal 2 Clasps Cape Colony and Belfast to 1329 Pte. A. Peace of the Liverpool Regiment

Pte A. Peace arrived in South Africa with a batch of 1st Battalion Liverpool Regiment reinforcements following the Relief of Ladysmith in March 1900. At this time the 1st Battalion Liverpool Regiment was placed in the 8th Brigade of the 4th Division under Sir Redvers Buller. Pte. Peace first saw action on 23rd August near Van Wyk's Vlei, where the Liverpool Regiment suffered 10 men killed and 46 wounded.
Following this Pte. Peace was mainly involved in skirmishing with the Boers until 29th December 1900, when Helevetia was attacked and captured by a strong Boer force. In this action the Liverpool Regiment's casualties amounted to 11 killed and 24 wounded. During the remainder of the war, the Liverpool Regiment was based in East Transvaal.
The medal is sold with a copy of the History of the Liverpool Regiment in South Africa (3 A4 sheets), one of which names Pte. A. Peace as being present with the 1st Battalion in South Africa.
