Condition - Good E.F.

Pte. E. Lewis was one of the replacements of the Scots Fusilier Guards following the Regiment's heavy losses at the Battle of Inkerman and the severe winter of 1854. These reinforcements amounted to 300 soldiers and they arrived in the Crimea during May 1855. Pte. Lewis arrived just in time to be involved in the first attack on Redan on 18th June, 1855. During this engagement, Pte. Lewis's company lost 4 killed and 8 wounded.

From June to the end of the Crimean War in September 1855, the Scots Fusilier Guards were involved in severe trench warfare which caused the Regiment heavy losses. Altogether, during the Crimean War, the Scots Fusilier Guards suffered casualties amounting to 136 killed, 314 wounded whilst 536 died of disease.

This is a very good quality medal to one of the famous Guards Regiments.
