British War and Victory Pair  to B/200204 Pte. H. E. Peake of the Rifle Brigade K.I.A. 12/02/1917

Harold Edward Peake was born and resided in Ipswich, Suffolk. He initially enlisted at Ipswich into the 3/8th London Regiment, but was quickly transferred to the 10th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade.
He arrived in France in 1916 when his Battalion became part of the 59th Brigade of the 20th (Light) Division. Rifleman Peake's first action was on the Somme in the Battle of Guillemont between the 3rd and 6th September 1916. Following this he took part in the Battle of Flers-Courcelette on the 17th September.

On the 12th February 1917, during the severe fighting between Grandcourt and Serre in order to capture the Ancre positions, Rifleman Peake was killed in action.  He is remembered with honour on the Thiepval Memorial.

The medal pair is sold with copies of the C.W.G.C. certificate, MIC and Soldiers Died in the Great War casualty roll.
