WWI British War and Victory Pair with Memorial Plaque and Envelope to 266992, Pte. Albert Monks of the Gloucestershire Regiment   SOLD

Albert Monks was born in Bristol, where he enlisted in the 1/6th Bttln. of the Gloucestershire Regiment. The 1/6 Bttln. Joined the 144th Brigade of the 48th Division. Pte. Monk's first action took place on the Somme during 1916. The 1/6th Bttln's Somme actions took place on the 16th July at Delville Wood, 22nd/23rd July at Pozieres, 14th August at Skyline Trench and finally between the 20th and 22nd of August near Hindenberg Trench. The 1/6th Bttlns. next major action was at the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. It was during early operations that Pte. A. Monks was killed in action on 13th August, 1917 aged 26. Pte. Albert Monks is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

He was married to Elizabeth Mary Ann Monks of Staple Hill, Bristol.

The medal pair with memorial plaque and envelope is sold with copies of MIC and Soldiers Died in the Great War documents.
