Thomas Wilkins was called up for service with the Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) on 16th October 1916 aged 20 years. He was to first see action on the Somme during the capture of Beaumont Hamel on 13th November 1916 during the Battle of the Ancre Heights. Pte. Wilkins was next engaged in the Battle of Cambrai 1917, followed by particiapation on the Lys, Hindenberg Line and the Selle, 1918. Pte. Wilkins was also to see a great deal of action with the Yorkshire Regiment, as part of the 50th Division during the Great German Offensive from 21st March to 29th April, 1918.
He remained in Germany with the Regiment as part of the Army of Occupation and was finally demobbed on 31st March 1920.
The medal pair is sold together with a copy of his MIC showing that the War and Victory Pair was his sole entitlement and a replacement discharge service letter from the War Office dated 13th February 1934. The letter states that Pte. Thomas Wilkins served with the colours from 16/10/16 until 03/10/19, that his conduct was "very good" and that he was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
