WWI War and Victory Pair to 35290 Pte. H.J. Bray Royal Berkshire Regiment K.I.A. 03.04.1918

Henry John Bray lived in Birmingham and enlisted into the Berkshire Regiment at Kidderminster in early 1916. He was placed in the 2/4th Battalion and given the service number 35290. Following training on Salisbury Plain, the 2/4th Bn. Royal Berkshire Regt. proceeded to France with the 184th Brigade of the 61st (South Midland) Division. Pte. Bray first saw action on the Somme at Fromelles on 19th July 1916, when the 2/4th suffered severe casualties. Following the Somme, the 2/4th took part in the Third Battle of Ypres being heavily involved on the 22nd August 1917.

On 22nd March 1918, the Germans set in motion their "Great Offensive". It was during this offensive that Pte. H. J. Bray aged 36, was killed in action during a German attack on the 3rd April,1918. Henry John Bray is remembered with honour at the Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy.
