Charles Taylor joined the Wiltshire Regiment in 1916 and was placed in the 1/4th Battalion with the service number 200703. He was sent to Egypt in March 1917 where the 1/4th Battalion joined the 75th Division of the newly formed Egyptian Expeditionary Force under General Edmund Alenby. The 1/4th Wiltshire was placed in the 232 Brigade commanded by Major General P.C. Palin and took part in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign.
Charles Taylor was to see considerable fighting against the Turks. His first engagement was at the Third Battle of Gaza on 27th October, 1917 followed by the Battle of Nabi Samwil from 20th to 24th November, 1917. The following year saw the 1/4th Wiltshires in action at Tell'Assur (11th - 12th March 1918) and April Berukin (9 - 11th 1918). During this period Charles Taylor was promoted to Corporal.
His final actions were at the Battle of Megiddo on 16th September 1918 and the Battle of Sharon on 19th September, 1918 where the Turks were completely routed. By this time Corporal Taylor had become Acting Sergeant and was to remain in Palestine in the Army of Occupation. He later served on garrison duty in Egypt from March 1919 until 14th May 1919 when he was discharged.
This is an outstanding pair of medals to an Acting Sergeant who saw considerable action whilst serving in the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. The medal pair is sold with copies of MIC and Medal Roll.
