George Edward England enlisted into the 7th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry in September 1914. Following training he landed in France with his Battalion on 24th July 1915.
The Regiment first saw action in the 2nd Battle of Ypres in 1915. Following this Pte. England participated in heavy fighting on the Somme in 1916. The 7th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry took part in the fighting near Guillemont on 3rd September 1916. They were next engaged in the Battle of Flers and captured an important section of the Ginchy-Lesboefs Road. George England, by now a Lance Corporal was next involved in the Third Battle of Ypres 1916. His final action was to be at the Battle of Hindenberg, 1918, where he was severely wounded.
Pte. England was discharged on 27th September 1918 aged 24, as a result of his wounds.
The medal trio is sold with a copy of the MIC, showing his entitlment to S.W.B. and the roll of individuals entitled to the War Badge, which was awarded to the wounded.
