Walter Bauch was a volunteer, who following RAD service joined the infantry and served from1935 to 1937 with 7/Jager Regiment 26. He transferred to the Airforce in October 1937 and served with several training units. He was promoted to Sergeant on 01/12/1940 and soon found himself training other Luftwaffe personnel in basic infantry tactics.
Following this, he was transferred to the Luftwaffe Feld-Division 4, which was sent to Welish, Russia in 1942 joining Army Group Centre.
Due to lack of experience and infantry training, all the hastily organised Airforce Field Divisions were rapidly destroyed by the Russians. Feldwebel Walter Bauch was one of the casualties and died of wounds in Russia on the 9th February, 1943.
This is a very rare group of documents and is in excellent condition.
