Queen's South Africa 1899 to 1900, 3 clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Johannesburg to 1431 Pte. M. Hogan 2nd Battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry    SOLD

Condition - E.F.

The 2nd battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry was dispatched to South Africa between October and November 1899. On arrival the Regiment was attached to Brigadier-General Smith - Dorrien's 18th Brigade. Pte. Hogan did not participate in the Battle of Paardeburg, but was involved on the 22nd April 1900 in the capture of the water works outside Bloemfontein, where the Regiment suffered casualties. Following this Pte. Hogan earned the Johannesburg clasp when he took part in his Regiment's capture of this town on the march to Pretoria in May 1900.

The total casualties sustained by the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry during the Boer War were 36 killed and 55 wounded.

This is a nicely toned medal with visible ghost dates and was awarded to an outstanding regiment.
